Anime animals have always been pretty cute you know. But usually the animal (talking) sidekick is the helpful guide to releasing your inner MEW MEW or whatever. Luckily we have some adorable animu to guide our hero as he (yes, he) journeys through his EPIC QUEST or whatever.
And no, the kyuubi doesn't count. Nor does the giant frog, snake, slug, raccoon thing.
