| Blood sucker? More like TEARS SUCKER as in HA bet you thought this was some shounen action shit SUCKER |
Okay I've gotten that out of my system, it's time to actually disclose which motherfucking heartbreaker it is this time. Drum roll...Vampire Juuji Kai: Record of a Fallen Vampire. Or as I like to call it, Record of Fallen Tears.
The summary gives nothing away. Like, a sweet love story about a vampire king trying to find his vampire queen? Sign me up...to a world of complicated (and amazing) plot turns and mindblowing reveals and beautiful characters and an all too short 45 chapters that completely overwhelms me, leaving me half stuttering half crying. Thanks for the contract, demon of darkness.
In an attempt to illustrate how sharp the twists were, I'll be spoiling every major element in the story in a semi-chronological order. (Because my mind is still in pieces). Remember, they did this to me in just 45 chapters, most of which happened in the last ten, all of which I read in the space of a terrible and great afternoon.
- Okay, vampire king trying to revive his vampire queen. They'll totally destroy the world with their amazing powers so people are trying to stop them. But both sides are kind of sympathetic, and don't really want to fight. Still they have to because they can't stray from their goals. Alright, basic premise get.
- What? The ultimate anti-vampire weapon, the Black Swan is joining forces with the vampire king?
- The leader of the resistance was the vampire king's daughter?
- What he's trying to revive his vamp queen for revenge over killing his human lover?
- What the human faction wanted him to stop freaking ALIENS?
- What all the seals were the real seals?
- What he forgave the queen?
- What he made himself a common enemy of both the vampires and the humans so they could work together and avoid wars?
- Wait the queen didn't kill his human lover?
- What his human lover was the adopted daughter of the leader of the human resistance against the vampires?
- And said leader was actually the one who killed her and his unborn child?
- Okay so he was stressing out the host of the Black Swan so she'd be tricked more easily by a lie
- Okay he's impervious to sunlight okay
- Right so the vampire king got the hostile humans to shoot missiles at them so he could find out that the aliens could destroy big objects that came near them, which renders their previous plan of sending the vampires to the moon in a rocket useless
- ok this fuckin guy in a hawaiian shirt can fly to the MOTHFRICKING MOON FUCKING THE JOKE THEY MADE IN THE SECOND FRICKING CHAPTER WAS TRUE I AM SO DONE WITH THIS GUY even everyone else's reactions are like what the fuck Strauss, what the actual fuck
- aaaaand the black swan is his dead lover and his unborn child yup her mother person kill them to make their souls into the spell and none of the previous hosts of the spell knew this because his lover blocked their memories b/c she knew that they wouldn't be able to kill you know the guy she loved and they decided this in the one time they could meet in a thousand years ok ok i'm cool i'm cool I'M NOT
- what the whole vampires becoming human thing is a bluff to give a goal to the vampire community to keep hunting him but since his dead body is part of the requirements he couldn't let himself be killed so he continued to live, killing the hosts of his dead lover and child and humans and vampires even though he was trying to protect them and he born this burden alone for a thousand years giving up his kingdom his family YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK YOU I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS SHIT WHY CAN'T YOU LET HIM BE HAPPY OH MY FUCKING GOD NO NO. N O.
- and his vampire queen has to give up her life force to terraform the moon into a community the surviving vampires can live in
- and the black swan has to kill him so that she can be freed from the spell and his lover & child's souls can be freed from the spell
- and wow like do you hate happiness
- is that it
- is that why you wrote the gentlest, the strongest, the smartest, the handsomest, the kindest guy in the world then just
- just
- why
- he was a king and he met someone who would pray for his happiness and he lost her and he lost his kingdom and i just
- no
- i'm trying to think about the ending but everything i try to think about anything i just
- no
- he was more than anyone
- give him happiness
- but no
- at least, at the very least you gave him peace.
- fuck.
- i'm done with this. fuck.
And there you have it my 100% coherent and eloquent summary and response to this piece of well-written shit. And it is well-written. It's a well written tragedy disguised as some sort of 'romance' and 'shounen'. They could've had it all. Bridget, who born the weight of the world on her shoulders, being transformed by first a father's love then a father's betrayal. But who was to the end, her father's daughter. And his other daughter, who only knew him for so short a time, a cosmic heartbeat in their lifespans, yet someone who could put her absolute faith in him. Adelheid, oh sweet innocent Adelheid who only wished for happiness for her sister, for the man she loved and for the wife of that man. And in the very end, when I saw them in their traditional clothes, it was a king and a queen. Standing to defend their kingdom, defend their people. Adelheid, sweet Adelheid who was a queen above all. Her head held high, her dignity and power to the very end, at the very end. The king is always in the forefront, but never forget, the king has only one peer and that's his queen. And there's no one who was more a queen than Adelheid. 'What wife of honour would not give everything for her husband?' What queen of honour would not give everything for her people? She was those things, a wife and a queen. To have lost her kingdom because of her love of her husband, her family and to have given her kingdom a new chance because of her love of her people. Then there was Stella, the only one to have seen the king as a man. In the end, she was always smiling. She didn't have magic powers or incredible skills, but her's was a strength that wouldn't lose to vampires. The only one to pray for a man who happened to be a king. The only one to scold a king who was a man. They should've deserved all the happiness, all the simple joy in the world. But even if they couldn't attain, then for sure, they had love.
These women were extraordinary. And their father, their king and their lover was proud to have known them. Strauss. Although I could say so much about his daughters, his queen and his lover, I'm at a loss for words when it comes to him. The vampire king who saved the world. Because that's really all you need to know about him. He was a king, he was a father, he was a lover and he saved the world.
Carry on my wayward son. There'll be peace when you are done.
Thank you, letting him have his long sleep. Thank you, for giving him peace.
