Me reading/watching Sword Art Online:
KIRITO KUN YOU'RE THE BEST! YOU'RE SO COOL! YOU'RE SO AWESOME! FUCK YEAH KIRITO KUN!

SAO was my favourite out of the main one arcs, though Project Alicization is getting pretty cool what with Asuna being a boss getting back her man and Kirito being Kirito.  But my absolute favourites are the side stories, because those are the ones with my favourite scenes, and those scenes being the ones with Kirito being Kirito. That is, as badass as possible. In contrast, Mother's Rosario was one of the least memorable for me, since I literally don't even remember the main girl's name anymore. I just like stories of Kirito&co. being awesome, game breaking elites. And how could they not be? Consider the party they made for Excalibur:
Kirito: Stupidly powerful game breaking Black Swordsman, capable of cutting down bullets with a lightsaber, using said lightsaber in a gun game, using the experience to cut down motherfucking magic, force a game designer to use system assist, predict the bullet predicting line, hack into the Japanese family registry as a child, hacking SAO to prevent it from deleting Yui, beat high level players in starter equipment, standing completely still like a boss as minor mooks try to scratch him, dive into a game completely alone to fight against an evil gm to save his girlfriend, solo while being on the front lines, clear a death game that trapped thousands of people for two years, run up walls, bluffing his way in front of a giant diplomatic congregation, creating a sonic boom from the dynamic entry into said congregation, taking on a lvl 74 boss nearly just by himself and two swords, create the Aincrad-style unique multi-hit sword school, DUAL FUCKING WIELDING even in a game without dual wielding skills, and most importantly, gather a harem of similarly game breaking characters like

Asuna: Berserk Healer. Lightning Flash. Vice Commander of the strongest clearing guild Knights of Blood. Max cooking skills. And let's not forget how she ran a distance of 5km in five minutes to save her boyfriend. Or how she overcame an unbreakable system paralysis to save her boyfriend. Or how she contacted a former associate of Kayaba's and with Rinko's help, disguised as an American research assistant and sneaked onto a top secret military base in the middle of the ocean -all to find out what happened to her boyfriend.  Bad. Ass.
Lyfa: A national quarter finalist of kendo and the strongest Slyph fighter and 'Speed Holic'. She helped tame an AI beast god and is the owner of imouto moeeee. (aka My Little Sister/Cousin Can't Be This Cute!)
Sinon: Top class sniper, able to hit pretty much any target at any distance with a rifle or an arrow. Single-handedly rescued Excalibur which by the way was falling into a bottomless pit and 200 meters away from them. Oh and the bow she used had a maximum range of 100m. Game breaking, and fought against attacks in real life. Badass coodere.
Yui: The single biggest literal game breaker of their party, a highly developed top down AI who can apparently do just about everything except solve the plot. Instant comprehensive database and minor administrative privileges  Also took down a death god. Musume moeeee.
Silica: Cute twintail loli who managed to randomly tame a dragon pet.
Lisabeth: Forged Kirito's game breaking swords, Dark Repulser and everyone else's cool weapons in ALO.
Klein: Guild leader and katana welder. Unlucky everydude, except for that one time he teamed up with Kirito to face off for at least 10 minutes against 50 members of a guild prepared for a boss. (But a boss would be less scary than Kirito in Black Swordsman mode)

Even if I say all that though, no amount of words can describe my love for Kirito as the strongest character. It seems that even if someone stronger apparently appears, like the girl from Mother's Rosario, he only loses because he didn't dual wield, or another technicality like that. And because I cannot stress this enough: DUAL FUCKING WIELDING. It's badass as hell. Especially when he hides it, and he pulls out another sword and owns the opponent. I mean Kayaba 'technically' beat him on the 75th level, but in their duel together he had to use system assist because Kirito's reaction speed was just that badass.
And speaking of Kayaba, I don't like how the anime is a) using Aria in the Starless Night even though its practically non canon, and b) going in order. My enjoyment of the side stories is only supported by my knowledge of Kirito's badassery. And plus they cut out my favorite part of a Murder Case, which was meeting up with Kayaba, because that enjoyment came from knowing Heathcliff's true identity.
I think even the author is partial to Kirito, because in the Accel World x Kirito crossover he was definitely the winner in that match. (Since Haru said he would've lost, and Kirito said he would've fought to a draw). There's just something about that legendary Black Swordsman character that made me all emotional when it appeared after so long in the Accelerated world. And mine is a sentiment shared by members of Kirito's (battle) harem, i.e. pretty much every girl he meets. It's great because instead of girls falling head over heels for an unlucky everyday loser, it's perfectly understandable to fall for a game breaking dual wielding ace with a badass longcoat. But I like that in both Accel and SAO the official couple is clear and requited from the get-go, resulting in the most badass battle couples ever.
And although I don't like the anime as much as the light novels, I do admit, Kirito's dual wielding, harem getting, game breaking badass makes the transition from text to animated awesome pretty smoothly.
