I don't feel any urge to put on headbands, collect broken jewels or play children's card games. Yes, Naruto, Inuyasha and Yu Gi Oh are my secret guilty pleasures. Detective Conan is my slightly more age acceptable ones. Well, just because I've watched it since I was in elementary doesn't mean I've gotten better at solving the clues. (Bleach doesn't count. Byakuya will always pwn Itachi and everyone should know that.) But Your Mileage May Vary. I just hope I won't start asking for moon prism power or try to catch them all soon.
And even though I've facepalmed so many times at the pure stupid shounen-ness of the shows, Yami Yugi is actually kinda
OMGSASUKEISTEHSMEX. XDD
(Okay now I'm just screwing with you.)
Yes, sometimes, i just need those long monologues, twisted logic, action sequences, catchphrases, attack names, power levels, questionable male relationships, annoying girl sidekicks, hyper male lead, powers of nakama, spiky hair, ridiculous costumes, limited wardrobe, improbable weapons, time-space continuum errors, complete disregard for laws of physics, battle aura..I could go on...and I will as soon as I hit another facepalm moment.
Besides, isn't it true appreciation? Where you can watch a show and laugh it all it places where it goes wrong and all the places it does right and going "Once in my childhood, I took this seriously." Well, maybe not the questionable male relationships.
Because along with all those facepalm moments, shounen shows excel in crowning moments of awesome, taking levels in badass, crowning moments of heartwarming, heroic blue screens and much narm charm all around. (Also + dramatic wind & badass longcoat) After all, the limit for the willing suspension of disbelief for a given element is directly proportional to its degree of coolness. So even though I know that the moral of the week is so overdone, and that he can't possibly die because he's a protagonist, and the power of friendship rarely affects anything else, or that the author has just completely contradicted the rule they introduced last week...I can't help but enjoy it anyways.
